This paper is aimed at studying the performance of Binmiinga (1934.05) in Sam‧Il Theatre group and showing that Yoo Chinjin tried to work over the theatrical ideas in Tokyo by this study.
Binminga is the only work which treats the laborers" solidarity strike and the protagonist who suppresses them appears. The reason why he created this kind of work was that he wanted it performed in Sam‧Il Theater group, one of the theater groups of left wing in Tokyo. He was disappointed at Gukyesulyeonguheo, the study group of theatrical art which performed mostly foreign dramas, went to Tokyo and showed off the possibility of performing creative drama.
Though Binminga was performed, the contents of criticizing reality was deleted because of censorship, which led to the low degree of perfection. At the time of end of the performance, the political oppression in Japan caused the theater groups of left wing to begin to fall and finally Sam‧Il Theater group came to break up. Yu Chijin had to search for the ways to revitalize the performance of creative dramas under the situation of strengthened censor and the theater groups of left wing not being active .
As Yu Chijin took aim at getting out of Binminga, the conservative tendency could not but appear in his work. He made an effort to remove the danger of being erased during censor in advance, dealing with the matter of reality in colonized Choson. He also tried to treat the comic elements as major points of work in order to give the audience dramatic amusement. These kind of methods in creative dramas were well applied in the work of So (1935), in which the life of poor tenant farmer is treated as a subject matter, conflicting cases are completely excluded and the farce of making the audience laugh is aimed.
In conclusion Yu Chijin tried to conceive the theatrical ideas in Tokyo ; the establishment of creating methods to expand the performing opportunity of creative dramas and the interpretation of Chosun on foreign dramas. They became the theoretical grounds of the second time activity in Gukyesulyeonguheo, the study group of theatrical art.
